Gerber mark 1 knife dating
Based on this posting I'd suggest that anybody who collects these contact Gerber customer service and ask about this.
Been 40 years and records may not exist but would be worth asking the question.
And they are selling for arojnd $ 9s and 1500 for a 1968 currently on ebay! Doug I'm not familiar with Gerber fakes but I can't say it surprises me.
Greg I HAVE BEEN COLLECTING THESE KNIVES FOR A VERY LONG TIME, AND AT ONE TIME HAD A VERY EXTENSIVE COLLECTION.
of his receiving the Legion of Merit in post Nam time, his paratrooper badge and ranger metal pin.
The Cats tongue handle is a little worn, but it is in great condition.
While I can't say with absolute certainty that this is a fake I will say you'd be a fool to shell out that kind of money for one that is suspect....that serial number is definitely suspicious.
Greg There is something else I didn't notice before but just strick me when I was looking at the picture of the knife in the first post.
Compare the admittedly poor picture below of mine to the picture in the first post.I emailed them about a year ago asking about my 20 year "canted blade" commemorative Mk II. They developed the Mk II specifically for servicemen in Viet Nam and are proud of that knife. So I can believe they'd still be willing to honor that offer Greg Thanks to all for the responses.IN THE PAST, I HAVE SEEN THE "SHORT BLADED SEAL KNIVES" BY A CERTAIN EBAYER WHO KEEPS RE-LISTING THEM.HAVE NOT SEEN THOSE LATELY, MAYBE HE FOUND A SUCKER.
